37. Frederick SHALLCROSS [scrapbook] 1 (Herbert SHALLCROSS , Enoch SHALLCROSS , Joseph ) was born 15 Oct 1886 in Audley Staffordshire. He died 5 Novermber 1960 in Astley Hospital and was cremated at Overdale, Bolton. A coal miner for the most part of his working life when he returned from a career in the Army. This is my Granddad.
Frederick married 1 Eugenia GASKIN 1 on 8th March in the Wesleyan Church High St, Atherton. Eugenia was born 12 Jun 1893in Halifax Yorks. She died 8th March 1991 in Leigh Infirmary, A wonderful lady she died of old age, her body was cremated at Bolton’s Overdale Crematorium, her ashes were spread by the Minister Rev Peter L Hughes and in the presence of her family and friends on the Garden of remembrance in the grounds of Chowbent Unitarian Chapel, Bolton Old Road, Atherton at which she was a life-long member.
Her good nature, pleasant manor and kindness was much treasured by everyone who knew her.

In a local bolt & nut works “Blackemores” in Bag Lane, Atherton. He was sacked for misbehaviour after 3days, when he broke a window
by accident with a stone. A then went to work at Gibfield coal pit also in Atherton and stayed till the pit closed in 1962, he was transfared to
Mosley-common Pit for a short time until moving for the rest of his working life to a Salford colliery he retired in 1987 after 47years under-ground
I can honestly say it did him no good, disfigured by coal falls, miners lung disease followed by mouth and lung cancer, manager two years of retirement
